At the Global Peering Forum 2026 in Panama City, Matt Griswold joined a panel asking "Is an AI Peering Exchange Possible?"

Josh Snowhorn of Quantum Loophole moderated the discussion, with Thomas King of DE-CIX, Richard Petrie of LINX, Jeff Budney of Verizon and Matt "Grizz" Griswold of Open Pipes taking part.

The Chicago Open Pipes route servers are now live.

We're delighted to share that Open Pipes is now officially recognized as a US 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Tomorrow I'm heading to Des Moines for the Midwest Peering Summit 2026, and I'll be talking about Open Pipes.

Open Pipes has been exploring an idea that we believe could help strengthen the Internet infrastructure community for years to come: an Open Pipes Mentor Network. Before deciding whether to invest further, we wanted to share the thinking behind it and hear from the community.

The Internet has always been built on more than technology.

Behind every network, Internet Exchange (IXP), routing policy, peering agreement, and operational best practice are people who have shared their knowledge, supported one another, and helped the next generation learn.

On May 28th I got to talk about Open Pipes at ChiNOG 13, in a session called "Building Community-Owned Critical Infrastructure."

Back in November I said Chicago Open Pipes was coming soon. On March 16th it stopped being "soon" — we passed our first real traffic.

Chicago Open Pipes is coming soon! We're ready to rack and stack to launch Chicago's first independent, data center-neutral, nonprofit Internet exchange — public-interest infrastructure for the Midwest.
