Open Pipes

Tomorrow I'm heading to Des Moines for the Midwest Peering Summit 2026, and I'll be talking about Open Pipes.

Here's where to find me:

  • Talk: Openpipes Chicago
  • When: 2:00 PM, Wednesday, July 8, 2026
  • Where: Hotel Fort Des Moines, 1000 Walnut St., Des Moines, IA

MWPS is one of my favorite kinds of events — regional, hands-on, and full of the ISPs, data center folks, and network operators who actually run the Midwest's Internet. It's exactly the crowd Open Pipes is built for.

It's also worth saying: the summit itself is the work of Jay Hanke, who founded MWPS — and who also happens to be Open Pipes' Peering Coordinator and one of the people who helped light up our very first sessions. The Midwest interconnection community is small and generous, and Jay is a big part of why.

If you're going to be in Des Moines, come to the 2 PM session, or just grab me in the hallway. I'd love to talk about keeping Midwest traffic local, neutral, and community-owned — and how your network can be part of it.
