Open Pipes Is Officially a 501(c)(3): Why We Made That Choice

We're delighted to share that Open Pipes is now officially recognized as a US 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

When we created Open Pipes, we wanted to build something that belonged to and served the Internet community. While our work began with supporting community-led Internet infrastructure, education and knowledge-sharing were always an important part of the wider vision.

Becoming a nonprofit reflects that purpose. It gives Open Pipes a formal structure through which we can collaborate with community organizations.

This includes supporting community IXPs, developing openly available educational resources, sharing operational knowledge, and exploring initiatives such as the Open Pipes Mentor Network.

For us, becoming a 501(c)(3) isn't simply an administrative milestone. It's a commitment to keeping Open Pipes community-focused, collaborative and driven by public benefit.

We're still at the beginning, and we're excited to see what we can build together.
